Arcade and Pinball collectors rejoice! There will soon be a new product on the market that will take modding your games to the next level – illuminated t-molding! Illumicade, a new company out of Iowa, has been developing the glowing t-molding and sharing tantalizing sneak peeks on the KLOV forums for the past few weeks. Yesterday, they dropped the proverbial mic by releasing photos of a Tron arcade machine in all its glowing glory. Kenneth Jeffery, the brains behind the operation, has currently only shipped out a handful of test kits to anxious collectors, but he anticipates that the t-molding will be available for the public very soon.
Arcade collectors have been customizing their classic games with colored t-molding for quite some time now, but with the advent of Illumicade’s new product, I imagine even more game owners will be pimping out their machines. Currently, the only color available is the electric blue displayed on the Tron machine, but other colors could be coming down the pipeline eventually. When pressed for a cost to the public, Illumicade estimates Tron kits will sell for $150, while “universal” kits which require a shorter length of materials should sell for $125. After additional prototype testing and another revision, Illumicade anticipates a late April or early May release to the public. Until then, be sure to check out their website or Facebook page to follow any updates.
